Our Sewing Classes!
At Thread Room we offer a whole range of classes!
We like to think that we have something to suit everyone. From kids to adults and beginners to advanced. Across all of our classes we want to make the process of sewing simple, fun and enjoyable. Our tutors all have a passion for sewing and we want to help you discover how joyful sewing can be!
Adults classes
We have, beginner, beginner plus and open classes available for any adult at every skill level. There are evening classes, daytime classes and weekend classes too.
You’ll be sewing alongside other like-minded people, everyone working on sewing projects that they love. We will teach you all the sewing skills you need and provide lots of encouragement along the way!
Beginner class
In this class we will cover all the basics of sewing! Starting with making a pin cushion and tote bag, then everyone will work on their own individual project. By the end of the term students will know how to confidently use a sewing machine, how to understand patterns and how to put together and sew simple projects. To join this class, you don’t need any sewing experience.
Beginner plus class
This is a class for the advanced/confident beginners. For those who are already comfortable with the basics of using a sewing machine but want to take it a step further and advance their sewing skills.
We start by covering lots of different sewing techniques such as different types of seams, sleeves, zips, gathering, waistbands, facings, bindings, darts, stretch fabrics and more. In the second half of the term we will work on an individual project to make use of what we have learnt.
This class will really take your sewing skills to the next level and by the end of the term give you the confidence to work on a range of different sewing projects all on your own. This class is a great follow on from the beginners class and it is also open to new students with a bit of sewing experience too.
Open class
The open class is suited to people who are confident and independent on the sewing machine. In this class, everyone spend’s the full term working on their own projects. We will help you along, going through any skills and techniques that are relevant to your projects as well as providing key information about sewing patterns.
Teenager Classes
The perfect class for any creative teen! In our teenage classes students get to pick their own choice of project and we will help them make their design come to life. It is so fun to see what they choose to make and to see how much they can accomplish in our classes. In the past, students in this class have made al sorts of garments ranging from trousers, to shirts and even ball gowns!
Kids classes
Kids will learn a whole new set of skills and gain so much confidence through learning to sew. We have classes to suit total beginners and classes to suit those with more sewing experience. All machines and materials for the projects are provided and there are lots of fabrics for kids to choose from and get creative with. Once you know the basics of sewing the possibilities are endless.
Our kids classes run at our Belmont studio and across a few other Auckland locations - Pt Chev, Remuera & Pinehurst.
Beginner kids
In this class we go through all the basics of learning to sew! Making lots of awesome projects as we go such as - scrunchies, tote bags, soft toys, skirts and more. This class will set them up well for their future sewing projects with teaching them a range of basic sewing skills.
Experienced kids
In the Experienced Class, we focus on two projects a term. From the range of projects we do, students learn lots of great skills that help broaden their knowledge and develop more complex skills. Next term, the Kids Experienced class are making a lovely ruffle sleeve top and quilted case!
